Chrome Extension - Windows and MacOS Installation and approval

After downloading the installer and running it, follow these steps to get past the (expected) blocking screens

Windows Quick Install

  1. Download the Dealer's Buyer installer, unzip and execute it

    1. Managed Buyer follow this article instead

  2. If needed, allow/unblock the installer

  3. Allow Chrome to install our extensions

MacOS Quick Install

  1. Download the Dealer's Buyer installer, unzip and execute it

  3. Allow Chrome to install our extensions

 

Unblocking Windows installer

  1. After downloading, double-click the downloaded .zip file and extract in <you username>/Downloads/VAN

  2. A blue "Windows protected your PC" screen appears (Microsoft Defender SmartScreen). That is expected

    1. VAN Chrome Extensions Setup is not yet signed by the App Store app — and it is not a failure

     


  1. Click More info (small text under the message).
  2. Click Run anyway.
  3. The installer opens normally after that. Click through it.

Windows Defender/Windows Security stills blocks the installer to run

If you see this message, you need to go over the following extra easy steps:

  • Open Windows Security, go to Virus & threat protection Settings, click Allowed Threats

  • Then click Protection history to see what file was quarantined at the time you attempt the installation 

  • Since you trust VAN and hence the file and know it is safe, click on the status text on the right, in this example we choose Severe
  • Once Windows turns the screen with a dark background stating Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your Windows Security? Click Yes
  • Then select Restore
  • You can run the installer or the app again

 

Unblocking MacOS installer

  1. After downloading, double-click the downloaded .zip file and extract in <you username>/Downloads/VAN

  2. Run it — and expect macOS to block it the first time

  3. Double-click VAN-Chrome Extensions-Install.command. macOS refuses it and says

    1. "Apple could not verify it" . That is expected

    2. VAN Chrome Extensions Setup is not yet signed by the App Store app — and it is not a failure:


  4. In the warning, click Done (not "Move to Trash").

  5. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security.

  6. You will see a line about VAN-Chrome Extensions-Install.command being blocked — click Open Anyway and confirm.

  7. Enter your Mac password if asked. It is your own computer's password — nothing is sent anywhere.

  8. A black Terminal window opens and prints a few lines — that is the installer working, not an error.

    1. When it says Done, press Enter to close it.
  9. The installer opens normally after that. Click through it.

You will never be asked for an administrator password. VAN Chrome Extensions Setup installs only for your user account. If something asks for an admin password, stop and message support — that is not our installer.

If you can't move forward

If the file disappears right after extracting, your antivirus quarantined it. Extract the zip again. Do not turn your antivirus off — if it happens twice, message support with your antivirus name.
